On October 27th and 28th, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Łukasz Oleksy in our Laboratory. During these two days, he generously shared his expertise, gained through his daily work with sports teams, and demonstrated the systems he uses regularly. His visit provided an excellent opportunity to conduct a series of tests involving basketball players from one of the leading teams.
During the event, we carried out tests using three motion capture systems: the marker-based BTS Smart, the markerless, open-source system OpenCap, and its commercial counterpart, Theia, which Dr. Oleksy brought with him. This allowed us not only to analyze the players’ movements but also to compare the results obtained with each system and characterize their performance. Additionally, Dr. Oleksy brought a wide range of diagnostic devices, including the Hawkin platforms, the NordBord system for monitoring hamstring strength, an EMG system for tracking muscle activity, and his examination table, where the athletes received valuable guidance on improving their motor skills.
The event also involved members of the BTS “Da Vinci” Scientific Circle, whose invaluable assistance provided a unique opportunity to observe the process of conducting biomechanical research. We were also joined by MSc Eng. Katarzyna Pytka from Gdańsk University of Technology, representing the Gdańsk Biomechanics Laboratory, a close partner with whom we collaborate on joint research projects.
